March 9, 2010 -- The Journal Record reports that Phil Busey Sr. has been named the 2010 Oklahoma Small Business Person of the Year by the U.S. Small Business Administration.

Busey is chairman and chief executive officer of the Oklahoma City-based Delaware Resource Group. He was nominated for the award by Liberty Strategic Solutions. Busey will represent the state in Washington, D.C., during National Small Business Week events scheduled for May 23-25.

The award for Busey was among six annual Oklahoma small business awards announced Monday by the SBA office in Oklahoma City.

The University of Central Oklahoma Small Business Development Center at One Santa Fe Plaza in Oklahoma City, Susan Urbach, director, was selected as the 2010 Oklahoma Small Business Development Center Service Excellence and Innovation Center of the Year. The center expanded services last year after moving to its new offices at One Santa Fe Plaza.

York Electric Systems Inc. of Broken Arrow was selected as the 2010 Oklahoma Jeffrey Butland Family-Owned Business of the Year. Stephen R. York and Judith York are CEOs of York Electric Systems and Jennifer Jezek is president.

Darcie Harris, CEO and founder of EWF International of Oklahoma City, was selected as the 2010 Oklahoma Women in Business Champion of the Year. EWF International is a provider of coaching and consulting for female business owners and executives.

Pamela Lynn Huddleston-Bickford, owner, Cherokee Data Solutions, Claremore, was selected as the 2010 Oklahoma Minority Small Business Champion of the Year.

Busey created the Delaware Group in 2002 with one other employee. His company grew quickly. That year the company was awarded its first subcontract to support the U.S. Air Force’s E-3 AWACS Mission Crew Training program at Tinker Air Force Base and increased to 95 employees.

Delaware Group now has 235 employees and annual sales of more than $24 million. The company manages contracts in six states.

A member of the Cherokee Nation and Delaware Tribe, Busey practiced law as a partner with several firms and served as general counsel in a number of commercial enterprises before starting his own business. Early on, he developed a long-range approach that DRG would walk before it ran.
