Two additional Oklahoma communities have been selected as Main Street Communities, bringing the state total of participants to 43. Bartlesville and the Kendall Whittier District in Tulsa are the newest members to the Oklahoma Main Street Program, a comprehensive revitalization effort that provides communities with tools to improve their historic central and neighborhood business district areas. March 1, 2010 -- The Oklahoma Main Street Center today announced the top three finalists in 22 awards categories. The first place winner will be announced and honored at the annual Main Street Awards banquet March 30.
"The over 200 nominations we received this year represent the best of Oklahoma Main Streets and all are winning nominations. The Top Three represent the best of the best," said Linda Barnett, Director of the Oklahoma Main Street Center, Oklahoma Department of Commerce.
February 9, 2010 -- The Oklahoma Tourism and Recreation Department will hold five workshops - one each March through July -- across the state to assist communities, organizations and individuals in developing and improving their grant writing skills. Each two-day workshop will provide information on foundation and government grants to assist those who are typically non-profit or government entities searching for funding for their projects. These grant workshops primarily address community and tourism development activities, such as museums, tourism destination areas, libraries, arts and humanities programs, community beautification, and similar projects.
