More than 35 Communities Expected to Participate
March 18, 2010 -- The Oklahoma Main Street Center, a division of the Oklahoma Department of Commerce and close to 40 Main Street communities from around the state will bring their downtowns to the State Capitol Thursday, April 8, during Main Street Day at the Capitol.
Main Street Day will be held on the Capitol’s fourth floor beginning at 9 a.m.
"We are proud of the success of the Main Street Program in Oklahoma. This is a great opportunity for Oklahoma Main Street communities to connect with their State Senators and State Representatives, as well as an opportunity for these communities to share their stories and their successes," said Linda Barnett, Oklahoma Main Street Center Director. "Each one of these Main Street communities has created new revenue and new jobs for their business districts and their citizens."
Barnett said the 43 participating Oklahoma Main Street communities have: generated over $720 million in total public and private reinvestment; created more than 12,700 new jobs; and helped in the development of more than 4,000 new or expanded small businesses.
The Oklahoma Main Street Center will also unveil the selection of two new communities to the Main Street Program at the event.
