Forbes Gives Tulsa And Oklahoma City High Marks For Jobs

April 17, 2009 - Forbes magazine says Tulsa and Oklahoma City are among the best places in the country to find a job.

Forbes ranked Tulsa 2nd among midsize cities for "Best Cities for Job Growth" and 10th among all cities.

Forbes ranked Oklahoma City 9th among large cities for job growth.

A Forbes columnist who wrote the article says strong ties to energy and a good housing market helped each city, with cities in the middle part of the country performing best.

Even though oil prices have fallen sharply since last summer, energy jobs and spending have kept unemployment rates in Tulsa lower than other parts of the country, Bob Ball, an economist with the Tulsa Metro Chamber tells the Tulsa World.

The Forbes article cited strong job growth in the Tulsa area's business services, education and health, government, manufacturing and retail sectors.

In last year's survey, Forbes ranked Tulsa 38th.
