Tulsa and Oklahoma City Rise in Jobs Index

November 17, 2009 – The Tulsa World reports fewer job losses, lower foreclosure rates and benefits gained from the energy sector helped both the Tulsa and Oklahoma City metropolitan areas move up on the Milken Institute's Best-Performing Cities 2009 index.

The Tulsa area moved to No. 19 from No. 72 last year. Oklahoma City climbed to No. 26 from No. 50.

Southeast Oklahoma Region Receives Work Ready Certification

13 Counties Involved in Workforce Effort

November 10, 2009 -- Thirteen Oklahoma counties added an important tool in their job creation kits this week when they received "Work Ready" recognition from the Oklahoma Department of Commerce. 

Commerce recognized the 13 Southeastern Oklahoma counties - Atoka, Bryan, Choctaw, Coal, Haskell, Hughes, Johnston, Latimer, LeFlore, McCurtain, McIntosh, Pittsburg, and Pushmataha - as the "Oklahoma’s Premier Work Ready Region" during a ceremony at the Kiamichi Technology Center McCurtain County Campus.

Oklahoma’s High School Graduation Rate above National Average

June 15, 2009-- The Tulsa World reports the graduation rate for most Oklahoma students is slightly higher than the national average, according to the Diplomas Count 2009 study by Education Week magazine.

The study, conducted during the 2005-06 school year, puts the overall graduation rate for Oklahoma at 70.6% and the national average at 69.2%.

Oklahoma is also outpacing the national average for increases in student graduation rates over the last decade, with the state’s rate growing at 3.6% between 1996 and 2006 versus the national rate at 2.8%, according to the World.
