Help for Workers
If you’ve lost your job, because of the economic downturn or other reasons, you may be able to get Unemployment Insurance, help finding a new job, free training and many other benefits through local Workforce Oklahoma offices across the state.
For a brief overview of what’s available, see this Workforce Oklahoma brochure on Job Seeker Services.
Opportunities to consider include:
- Unemployment Insurance. There’s now an extra $25 a week, and it’s available for up to 46 weeks (and longer if you lost your job to certain international trade situations).
- Free Training and Other Services. You may be eligible for free testing, training, counseling and other services, including health insurance subsidies.
- Rapid Response to Layoffs and Plant Closings. Help may come to you if you’re part of a mass layoff or plant closing.
- Career Planning. Workforce Oklahoma, GrowOklahoma.com and other resources can help you sort out career options, whether it’s your first career or something after that.
- Road Construction Jobs. Oklahoma is getting $426 million in federal economic stimulus funds for highways, enough to double construction activity.
- Low-Income Weatherization. With $60.9 million in extra weatherization money, there will be new home improvement jobs. Some workers also may qualify for weatherization of their own homes.
- Workforce Oklahoma Centers. These offices across the state can help with job searches, career planning, training opportunities, resume preparation, childcare, and much more.
