3 Airlines Increasing Capacity and Service at Tulsa International Airport

June 15, 2009 – The Tulsa World reports several airlines are increasing service and capacity at Tulsa International Airport.

The airlines increasing service include: United Airlines, American Airlines and Frontier Airlines.

  • United recently began daily nonstop service from Tulsa to Los Angeles International Airport, adding 66 seats a day in aircraft departures to the market. 
  • American recently expanded its daily service to Chicago O'Hare International Airport, adding 82 daily seats. 
  • On August 2, Frontier will institute twice-daily round-trip service to Denver International Airport, providing an additional 140 seats a day.

Tulsa Playing a Crucial Role as American Airlines Upgrades Its Fleet

April 14, 2009 – American Airlines recently announced the beginning of the its two-year fleet renewal plan, unveiling the first two Boeing 737-800s added to the fleet since 2001 according to the Tulsa World.

The World reports over the next two years, American will add 76 Boeing 737-800s as it begins to retire its 270 25-year-old MD-80s. American flies 77 Boeing 737-800s, which are 35% more fuel efficient on a per-seat-mile basis than the MD-80s.

FAA Releases Names of State Airports Receiving Stimulus Funds

March 30, 2009 -- State aviation officials recently learned six Oklahoma airports would be the beneficiaries of additional funding from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).

Stillwater Regional Airport will receive the lion’s share of the $16.4 million—$5.9 million—to rehabilitate its main runway. Bartlesville Municipal Airport will get $3.9 million which airport officials will also use to rehabilitate its runway, while Will Rogers World Airport in Oklahoma City will receive $2.3 million to rehabilitate runway lighting controls.

Spirit AeroSystems Completes $17.4 Million Facility Renovation in Tulsa Creating 500 New Jobs

March 30, 2009 – According to the Journal Record, Spirit AeroSystems recently completed a $17.4 million renovation of Building 119 (B119), a hangar used by the company at Tulsa International Airport.

Company officials say the renovated hangar has lead to additional contract work creating 500 new jobs.

Owned by the city of Tulsa, the 44,000-square-foot hangar is adjacent to old Air Force 3 Plant. B119 will house Spirit’s additional component and composite work. The company employs about 1,800 workers at its Tulsa facility.

Aerospace Industry Study

Oklahoma Aerospace Industry Workforce ReportOklahoma will likely experience shortages of approximately 200 Aerospace Engineers and 400 Electrical Engineers by 2014, with shortages of additional engineering specialties possible in that same time frame. The Aerospace Industry Report, the second of a series of selected sectors, assesses supply and demand and provides a gap analysis of the current and future workforce needs of Oklahoma's aerospace industry.
