No Man’s Land is the premier authentic beef jerky manufacturer in the United States who offers a cowboy-style rip and tear jerky. Founded in Boise City, Oklahoma, in 1997, they expanded to Enid, Oklahoma, in 2015.
Commerce sat down with Clint Beagley, President of No Man’s Land, and Marcie Mack, Executive Director of Enid Regional Development Alliance, to discuss how the Oklahoma Department of Commerce helped No Man’s Land expand to Enid and how that expansion has created jobs with competitive wages within the city.
Q: Tell us about No Man’s Land.
Clint Beagley, President of No Man’s Land Foods: No Man’s Land is the premier authentic beef jerky manufacturer in the United States. It was founded in Boise City, Oklahoma, in 1997. We are the only manufacturer that dehydrates our product, use whole muscle beef and we truly give an authentic cowboy style rip and tear jerky, which really differentiates us from the competition. We’re distributing all over the country. Mostly in the convenience channel. Probably 80% of our business is convenience related.
Q: Tell us about your partnership with the Oklahoma Department of Commerce.
Clint Beagley: Eleven years ago, we opened our first plant in Enid. We needed to buy a building. We needed to buy equipment. We needed to hire people. And immediately the state reached out to us and was willing to partner with us. We’ve gone from making 2,000 bags a day, to over 30,000 bags a day.
Q: What benefits do you have by being located in Oklahoma?
Clint Beagley: We take great pride in being an Oklahoma company. We all were born and raised in Oklahoma; all being us owners. And we love the fact that we’ve been able to maintain all of our manufacturing and distribution in the state of Oklahoma.
The state of Oklahoma is obviously geographically located in a good spot. Center, you’ve got interstates going both directions, which makes it really efficient from a freight and logistics standpoint. We always have competitive rates to ship out of here compared to other spots. The people of Oklahoma are fantastic. In the last 11 years, we’ve gone from zero employees in Enid to over 220 employees.
Q: How has No Man’s Land contributed to the Enid community & economy?
Marcie Mack, Executive Director of Enid Regional Development Alliance: No Man’s Land for us, being in our community, has brought a base of jobs that allows for us to provide very competitive wages for individuals as well as additional employment opportunities that may not have been available without them coming to Enid. No Man’s Land is always ready and willing to walk alongside us to help individuals understand what Enid has given to them and why they give back to Enid. And making sure we grow that base. They’re an exceptional community partner and we’re very fortunate to have them.
