Lufthansa Technik Component Services [recently] celebrated the completion of a major expansion project at its Tulsa headquarters. The company added an additional hangar, more than doubling the size of its [Tulsa, Okla.,] facility and allowing it to provide additional capabilities and an enhanced logistics network.
“Today marks another important milestone in the development of Lufthansa Technik Component Services,” said Stephen Fondell, managing director.
The company provides aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul services.
Before the expansion, all of the Tulsa operations were housed in one hangar. The expansion more than doubles the company’s facility at 115,000 square feet. The workshop space available between the two hangars is four times larger.
The company can repair about 3,000 different part numbers at its Tulsa location, Fondell said, and last year made about 28,000 repairs.
Since 2007 the company has seen exponential growth, sometimes as much as 50 percent a year.
Fondell said he expects growth to be at about 25 percent each of the next two years.
The company employs nearly 600 people at eight locations throughout North America. The bulk of the employees — nearly 300 — work in its Tulsa headquarters.
The new component shop, located near Tulsa International Airport, is the latest North American expansion for the German-based Lufthansa Technik.

“We believe that being close to our customers is important and gaining efficiencies through shorter supply lines is necessary,” Fondell said.
Gov. Mary Fallin was on hand for the ceremony and credited the state’s workforce for helping Lufthansa choose its Tulsa facility for expansion.
“You have many other locations that you could expand and invest your money in,” she said. “I have always known that we have a great workforce in our state, especially when it comes to aviation and defense.”
