Oklahoma Department of Commerce to Host National Weatherization Day Job Fair & Resources Event

October is National Energy Awareness Month, and October 30th is designated as National Weatherization Day. To raise awareness, the Oklahoma Department of Commerce is hosting a National Weatherization Day Job Fair & Resources Event on Monday, October 30 at the State Fair Grounds, Hobbies, Arts & Craft Building, from 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt has proclaimed October 30, 2023, as “WEATHERIZATION & ENERGY DAY.”

This event is open-to-the-public, and attendees will have the opportunity to learn more about energy efficiency and energy programs in Oklahoma, including, but not limited to: weatherization, solar and water. There will also be on-site professional demonstrations and networking opportunities with Community Action Agencies and service providers. The job fair is targeted toward high school students interested in learning more about in-demand jobs in Oklahoma.

“Weatherization and Energy day is an opportunity to highlight the impact of the Oklahoma Weatherization Assistance Program, along with other energy efficiency programs that save energy, improve the health and safety of residents, and support jobs and small businesses” said Marshall Vogts, Oklahoma Department of Commerce Director of Community Development. “With many in-demand jobs available, we hope this event will open the door to life changing career paths for students and others.”

The Oklahoma Department of Commerce administers the Oklahoma Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP), funded by the Oklahoma Department of Human Services and the U.S Department of Energy, to provide pathways for low-income, energy-burdened rural and urban households in Oklahoma to achieve household energy efficiency through Community Action Agencies that serve people in every county in the state. The intent of the Oklahoma WAP is to increase residential energy efficiency, reduce energy expenditures, and improve home health and safety for Oklahoma’s low-income households, especially vulnerable populations, who are most impacted by rising energy cost.

Event registration is recommended, but not required. To RSVP visit https://form.jotform.com/232537564375059. Lunch will be provided for all students who register for the job fair. For questions, contact priscila.guillen@okcommerce.gov.
